  • All-purpose flour 1 2/3 cups 208 g
  • Cocoa powder 1/4 cup 22 g
  • Baking soda 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt 1/4 teaspoon
  • Butter softened 1/2 cup (112 g)
  • Brown sugar packed (light or dark) 1/2 cup (105 g)
  • Granulated sugar 1/2 cup 100 g
  • Nutella 1/2 cup
  • Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
  • Large egg room temperature 1
  • Chocolate chips plus extra for tops 1 cup (170 g)

Instructions

  • Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  • Beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy and fluffy.
  • Mix in the Nutella and vanilla extract, then add the room-temperature egg until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix just until the dough comes together.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips, saving some extra chips for topping.
  • Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop the dough into 28 portions, place them on the baking sheet, and press extra chocolate chips on top.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers look slightly soft.
  • Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For the best texture, don’t skip the chilling step because it helps the cookies hold their shape and stay chewy. Use room-temperature ingredients, avoid overmixing the dough, and don’t overbake the cookies. They will continue to set as they cool and will stay soft in the center.
